Identify what the groove does

Measure from a consistent face
Use the intended walking or visible face as the datum. Record groove position, opening, depth, and remaining material above and below it. Note whether one or both edges are grooved and whether the geometry continues through board ends. Photograph the measuring position so another reviewer can reproduce it without guessing which surface was used.
Inspect more than one point
Compare several positions along the sample and several boards from the shipment. Keep individual readings rather than averaging away a location where the clip cannot seat. Mark damaged, compressed, or torn groove areas separately from apparently intact machining. Record whether a measurement came from unfinished stock, coated material, or an existing weathered board.

If parts bind or leave unexplained play, keep the samples unchanged and seek a written resolution. Do not deepen a groove, bend a clip, or substitute screws merely to finish the demonstration.
